Ozawa Ransetsu, Japanese Calligrapher
Born in 1945 in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture Japan. Ozawa Ransetsu lives and works in Sumida-ku,Tokyo. She has loved calligraphy since the age of three. When she was 5th glade of the primary school, she used to teach the children at the private calligraphy class with her father.
Ransetsu gave an English-language speech about her relationship with calligraphy for which she won the Asahi Evening News All-Japan English Speaking Contest (Kanto region). She then enrolled in Gakushuin University, Tokyo, where she took classes in both the Department of English Literature and the Department of Japanese Literature. (While still a university student, she became qualified to teach calligraphy to high-school students; this was at the time an unprecedented achievement)
Since her first exhibition in 1985, she has held more than 20 specially themed and designed exhibitions principally at the Ginza Kyukyodo. Since 2008,
she has been a tutor-in-residence teaching Japanese brush calligraphy at Higham Hall in the English Lake District. She hold her exhibition “UNADORNED” at the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere England for 5 months of 2011.
